I did my first half-marathon on Sunday January 13th and it was a blast! I ran with Justin and my mom. However, even after months of training my mother still beat us by a considerable amount of time (Go Mom). At the race our friend Shannon was there and completed her first running event, which was a 6 miler. Shannon completed the race in 1 hour 3 minutes, way to go Shannon!

This race was pretty small and took place out in the middle of now where with not much to see but fields and a few cows here and there but it was peaceful and enjoyable. At the end of the race there was some spectators cheering us on and we even had our own cheering section, which really got and Justin and I going, or levitating as shown in the picture above.

The best thing about this run were all the unexpected treats. We had cheering squad with many friends and family that we did not expect, we ran into an old friend from high school that I am going to start running with when in Portland, and we got some awesome bread and chicken noodle soup at the end of the run.

All in all a very fun run and great event! Justin and I were happy with our times which ended up being around a 9 1/2 minute miles.

  1. Congratulations! That’s fantastic that you did a half-marathon. I bow to you! (My longest race was 9.3 miles - Utica’s Boilermaker.)

LOVE the Sharon Salzberg quote, by the way. She says it so poignantly…regardless of how long something has been another way, we can change it (or us) at any point and that’s all that matters.

So glad to see a new post! (And I just may run tonight!)

  2. That was so much fun! I know the kids had a blast too! I love that picture of you and Justy because both of your guys’ feet are off the ground and you guys are in the same position…great picture taker (wink wink).
