11 Things you think you need, but dont!

• Home Phone - I have not had a home phone since I have been out on my own. With family cell phone plans each family member can have their own phone and always keep in touch. The land-line phone companies know that their services are no longer relevant and are doing anything possible to try and retain customers from resorting to fear-based scare tactics (they try and sell the dangers of not having a 911 location enabled phones) to getting involved in cell and VOIP technology.
• Microwave - What was the last nutritional or 100% perfectly cooked meal you had from your microwave?? Sure a microwave can heat up a cup of water in a hurry, but food comes out sub-par at best. Just ditch the microwave and use a toaster oven, conventional oven and stove top.
• Anything from the Container Store - You can’t organize clutter no matter how great the container or how much $$ you spend. Just get rid of the clutter once and for all.
• Weed Killer - There is something safe and cheap that kills weeds faster than round-up and it probably already in your kitchen. The magic weed killer is Vinegar and it works great!
• Laundry Baskets - There is nothing really wrong with laundry baskets, but for the most part they are bulky and just unnecessary. A pillow case is more sturdy and takes up less space.
• Fabric Softener - I personally have just never understood fabric softener. It costs money and makes towels slippery. If you use and enjoy fabric softener please drop me a line and try to enlighten me, as maybe I am missing something.
• Sq Footage - Bigger is not always better, especially in terms of square footage. We all know that clutter and “stuff” just fills to take up the space you give it. So just say no to increasing house sizes, great rooms, spare rooms, and do more with less and be “green” in the process. • Windows Operating System - If you are still getting sold on the lies of 10 years ago, such as “there is no software for the mac”, “they are not compatible”, “there are no games”, “everyone just uses windows”, etc, etc then it is time you give mac a chance, I promise you will be delighted with your decision and never go back!! Getting rid of Windows actually gets bonus points because you also get rid of Spyware, Malware, Viruses, Licensing Nonsense, and a host of other Windows pains in one fell swoop.
• Windows Office Suite - Word processing was a bid deal like 20 years ago, but now there are so many options including just the simple processors that come with both Windows and Mac. I would guess that for 98% of the population even these simplest of applications will complete all the tasks at hand. If you want to take it up a notch try a free word processor such as Open Office or an online word processor such as Google Docs.
• Storage rental - But you already knew this one! Just get rid of this crap and feel better instantly.
• New(er) Car - A recycled (used) car can be so much cheaper and even more fun. I have discussed this briefly in a previous post.
